Lately there has been a proposal floating around to start levying taxes on vacationers arriving at the Juan Santamaria International Airport in Costa Rica… seems rather interesting though considering tourism is a major industry and these types of taxes might result in less tourism.
However on the positive side the proposed departure tax is only a mere $15 and I’m sure most vacationers coming to Costa Rica won’t have much of a problem paying such a small tax.
The flip side to the coin is that there is already a departure tax you must pay when leaving the country which begs the question why have yet another tax?
Fortunately for vacationers the Internation Air Transport Associate (IATA) is on your side and is pushing against the arrival tax by claiming it will deter visitors from coming to Costa Rica and will opt instead to visit other nearby countries.
